Spring has finally come, and we are getting some warmer days here and there. The earth is muddy and soft, having released the first of spring's flowers into bloom. In other words, it's mud kitchen season! Grab some rain boots and stomp along as we explore how to have fun in the mud!

What is Mud Kitchen & What do I need to get started?
You're probably familiar with what Mud Kitchen is, but incase you're not, it is just what it sounds like.... playing kitchen in the mud. You don't need to have much to start a mud kitchen. Really the only necessities are dirt, nature, some good old imagination and a willingness to get your hands dirty! And for mom, a tolerance of dirty clothes and children and mud tracks across your kitchen floor.
That being said, it IS fun to stock your outdoor kitchen cupboard with some old pots, pans, muffin tins, measuring spoons and utensils. Thrifting for pretty things for the mud kitchen is great fun for everyone! Mama included. Most all of my mud kitchen supplies were thrifted or retired items from my kitchen. On the rare occasion, a spoon here, or a cup there have been stolen from my cupboards, but for the most part, mud kitchen supplies are thrifted around here.

Mud Kitchen Recipes & Recommended Books
Although not mandatory, but for some extra fun, make some mud kitchen recipe cards! My girls especially enjoy copying recipes from the following books onto their own recipe cards. Once they are done, we laminate them and store in a waterproof recipe box for them to use outside.
